I rose to the occasion after I was unable to find thé perfect dress for a wedding. The color sceme was greens and cremes with a touch of gold. Now know this: not all greens are created alike. And most of the time green isn't my color. So finding a dress in the right green in the middle of spring was difficult. So instead of buying it, I decided to create it.</p><p> </p><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEik4vr25mV2absY8SL7MIaOhx3udfnH2TRf_n71aM5VdNEWKe3169vFlFQbkf3ORuMuo4zpz_LbsU7jj4rhpqXFU-ZI1kc9Lxc96Uf7h3xF5YCpD9LTq-X4cxp5VJgqMZVT6G2Iz3fzG8VAlzMcABh5ZYyPlWaJFtVZpep3tzQJi1AHLwGbxiO2T2lm/s897/Sketch%2001.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="786" data-original-width="897" height="560" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEik4vr25mV2absY8SL7MIaOhx3udfnH2TRf_n71aM5VdNEWKe3169vFlFQbkf3ORuMuo4zpz_LbsU7jj4rhpqXFU-ZI1kc9Lxc96Uf7h3xF5YCpD9LTq-X4cxp5VJgqMZVT6G2Iz3fzG8VAlzMcABh5ZYyPlWaJFtVZpep3tzQJi1AHLwGbxiO2T2lm/w640-h560/Sketch%2001.png" width="640" /></a> </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"> </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">It was all clear in my head: a dark green, sparkling dress with a with of showing but classic at the same time. I did tinker around a bit with going for a nude or neutral dress. That was soon tossed out for being too neutral. I like a bit of pop! So, off to the sketching board I went. For the very first time. I made 6 sketches and eventually went for my first thought. The 3 above are my first sketches. I liked the flow of the left one with the cap sleeves and the split from the right design. So I made a couple more sketches.<br /></div><p></p>
<br /><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEigCyMm7Pmp9hjUXqYdlYgmLS1VcA_49VIxWgFjJ2EkfaDBQacKzgL0Xj0wvtMffJqGSxq5d8faLb--hXmlo4kLnPsdtANYV5Ds25B_PEO3s9CcisNBMBThFl4oYk3xMmQUxckGyclUGXIBYeT2O2ZP6Dm_fvmzPni-i3-8T8MyJhuh6VkqA182e3nB/s886/Sketch%2002.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="791" data-original-width="886" height="572" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEigCyMm7Pmp9hjUXqYdlYgmLS1VcA_49VIxWgFjJ2EkfaDBQacKzgL0Xj0wvtMffJqGSxq5d8faLb--hXmlo4kLnPsdtANYV5Ds25B_PEO3s9CcisNBMBThFl4oYk3xMmQUxckGyclUGXIBYeT2O2ZP6Dm_fvmzPni-i3-8T8MyJhuh6VkqA182e3nB/w640-h572/Sketch%2002.png" width="640" /></a></div> <p></p><p style="text-align: justify;">This time I sketched 3 similar dresses. The one on the left with a straig skirt, the middle with a flared skirt and the right the same as the middle, but in a different color. The middle one definitly was my favorite. </p><p style="text-align: justify;">So, now that I had my sketch and what I wanted, I went looking for the right pattern. I thought a bit about creating my very own, but by this time, I was getting a little too time compressed and didn't have the time to create several muslins and adapt everything. So I went searching in my stash and soon landed on Butterick's reproduction B6018. I've made it before - see here and here - and knew it would fit and suit me. There only needed to be done some small adaptations to the length, the shoulders and split.</p><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgDubQmplEkF1PfjkOOK8T021xmUiufbFppr_xUM5p_9kGlcXAnZ2iOhIiJHbOtaqIgIpkYH0H7EDMhS58MW56Up5DWjOxdP6D8XOUoUAU5e05_KiqSLwPJSogaLQgAGXliNafK-ghDBeB02auRBLFUZLEsrDdqhBtaRhRavvVuLD4Sq-JslUApEOjU/s785/Sketch%2003.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="785" data-original-width="296" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgDubQmplEkF1PfjkOOK8T021xmUiufbFppr_xUM5p_9kGlcXAnZ2iOhIiJHbOtaqIgIpkYH0H7EDMhS58MW56Up5DWjOxdP6D8XOUoUAU5e05_KiqSLwPJSogaLQgAGXliNafK-ghDBeB02auRBLFUZLEsrDdqhBtaRhRavvVuLD4Sq-JslUApEOjU/w242-h640/Sketch%2003.png" width="242" /></a></div><br /> <p></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">After I started on the dress, I was thinking about the shoulders and decided to do one last change: I wanted it to have tulip sleeves. So there I had my 7th and final sketch and a basic pattern. For the skirt, I just added the length I needed to make it floorlength (+37cm). For the tulip sleeves I followed this free tutorial from <a href="https://youtu.be/E4BoEQhL8N8" target="_blank"> Savi's Fashion Studio</a>. I loved how easy everything was explained. In hindsight, I needed more room on the original sleeves, but I only addressed it after. Also, because I went for tulip sleeves, I wanted a clean finish on the inside. So I drafted some new facings and used this tutorial from <a href="https://youtu.be/r751I1CRIeU" target="_blank">Frocks and Frolic Sewing Patterns</a> to get that clean inside finish.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">After the pattern alterations, I made 1 muslin to see if I did it correctly and if I wanted somethinig else done to it. In the muslin, I omitted the pockets that I initially wanted and the split. Also, I made it knee length. Partially because I had less fabric and partially because I didn't want to sew that much fabric. Because the dress was shorter, I omitted the split too. So basically, I made a muslin for the sleeves and to get familiar with sewing a cap sleeve with facings.</p><p style="text-align: justify;">So after all that thinking, tinkering and sewing, I was ready to take on the actual dress! But that's for my next post. ;-)<br /></p><br /><br />Allynarahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05506508640667783645noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4329512412419740850.post-4315679765110480392022-08-19T18:29:00.002+02:002022-08-27T22:40:58.497+02:00Mushu - Awaken!<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><br /><p><br /></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiPpL4pj3YuqpvSi82ghokdAe42ChHpmVHljcA-wMjRCJ3qU0TEpuTneeAX22cjmrXsevyZICVHayG1V6o88hBq9sV_FdiJkhcUFelPTw05badjpIH4-lZBMifAkyJ6HfW6a0u03OtFtBONJ-bGoh2JqfPMIVJ9Y2g-_9FgpVJSGV4zh9e0YyEX705h/s496/4B92B572-A029-4FE8-A63E-7C3F7B92D984.gif" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="280" data-original-width="496" height="181" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiPpL4pj3YuqpvSi82ghokdAe42ChHpmVHljcA-wMjRCJ3qU0TEpuTneeAX22cjmrXsevyZICVHayG1V6o88hBq9sV_FdiJkhcUFelPTw05badjpIH4-lZBMifAkyJ6HfW6a0u03OtFtBONJ-bGoh2JqfPMIVJ9Y2g-_9FgpVJSGV4zh9e0YyEX705h/s320/4B92B572-A029-4FE8-A63E-7C3F7B92D984.gif" width="320" /></a></div><br /><p><br /></p><p>Oh wauw, it’s been 2 years since I’ve been active on this blog! We planned our holidays before Covid-19 hit and decided to just go with it. After all: we went to the mountains and hired our very own cabin. We're not really people to go to crowded places or very big towns.</div><div><br /></div><div>So, after some busy months - somehow my work doubled because of Covid - we all took a well deserved break and enjoyed some mountain sightseeing. Something we haven't done since I became pregnant. After several years of not being able to go, it felt liberating to be back in the mountains!</div><div><br /></div><div>Here are a few photos of our trip. I hope you'll enjoy them as much as we do!</div><div><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg0yCA8eGvGGmU_HnGEgs2N9yXsUVqSni2WHsclekLcSEbPCuYQzwVycXPflyKUwyy7JZ9rB9OIkXvToDVYJjdAtSrHeAjwGxBOm8AFZMjjW8uzr9bvLAzHvG9K4sXr9acVfjEgGm2VwDY/s2048/001+-+Verdun.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1367" data-original-width="2048" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg0yCA8eGvGGmU_HnGEgs2N9yXsUVqSni2WHsclekLcSEbPCuYQzwVycXPflyKUwyy7JZ9rB9OIkXvToDVYJjdAtSrHeAjwGxBOm8AFZMjjW8uzr9bvLAzHvG9K4sXr9acVfjEgGm2VwDY/s640/001+-+Verdun.jpg" width="640" /></a></div><div><div> </div>When on route, we took a few stops for the children. My last make was <a href="https://sewcotton.blogspot.com/2020/04/the-vielle-top-1.html" target="_blank">this top</a> and what about <a href="https://sewcotton.blogspot.com/2017/09/the-laneway-dress-v2-pretty-in-pink.html" target="_blank">this dress</a>? I made it 4 times!</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;"></div><div style="text-align: justify;">Back when I was still pregnant, I bought the Sorrel Dress. It took me 'till this January/February (more than a year after purchasing the pattern) to actually put the pattern together and do my normal adaptions (sway back, taking in the shoulders). And then... then it took months and months and months before I actually put my scissors into some fabric and made a 3D dress from a 2D pattern.</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh4uIS-ZXvSuxrrksBxQglR5X4iRF1Jg3G4w3aS2KNeQ1bOmGEFVCCTJJhn2JXZEcA-JZR5yDoFUP-VWrh6uRmlOXdhLiJlRz8L65s_RvOZCzivbb8wr9PbCwBYsz0KvMPUNZpeuDsJYto/s3018/The+Sorrel+Dress+02.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2020" data-original-width="3018" height="419" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh4uIS-ZXvSuxrrksBxQglR5X4iRF1Jg3G4w3aS2KNeQ1bOmGEFVCCTJJhn2JXZEcA-JZR5yDoFUP-VWrh6uRmlOXdhLiJlRz8L65s_RvOZCzivbb8wr9PbCwBYsz0KvMPUNZpeuDsJYto/w625-h419/The+Sorrel+Dress+02.jpg" width="625" /></a></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">Before my significant other knew what was going on, the dress rolled out from my sewing machine. Truly: this is a fast dress! I cut the dress in 1 evening and put it together the following evening. Only thing left to do by then, was sewing on the buttons (and I really don't like sewing on buttons). But the buttons were sewn on evening 3 and tada! It was ready to wear.</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjPPW232YCs14Am0xc0QomXGgl4bipy45yCJd0arzjdEX78L74P7fqLAO9syC8Um9_eqwAR3sc9YRDD2AgYS4cdC7lEAZPQGr0QrTIIt_0hPKkUU8CDg0TBnssYIEpusMv9P6gT0LubPc0/s3018/The+Sorrel+Dress+06.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2021" data-original-width="3018" height="419" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjPPW232YCs14Am0xc0QomXGgl4bipy45yCJd0arzjdEX78L74P7fqLAO9syC8Um9_eqwAR3sc9YRDD2AgYS4cdC7lEAZPQGr0QrTIIt_0hPKkUU8CDg0TBnssYIEpusMv9P6gT0LubPc0/w625-h419/The+Sorrel+Dress+06.jpg" width="625" /></a></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">To be honest: I'm not sure how I feel about the end results. On the one hand I'm a huge fan of the pattern. Fast, easy, vintage-y, quickly thrown on. On the other hand: I feel really young and really old at the same time. Contradictory, I know. I think it's because of my fabric choice: a regular cotton with a busy flower print. I feel like these tiny flowers make me look young on one hand (like inexperienced) and old on the other hand (like 50's housecoat). There have been times in the past that I wanted to look older and in the future I'll probably want to look younger. But right now, I just want to look my age. Hence: I'm a bit in-between regarding this dress.</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgEKOE2nalCl3HfQOecufwFKGNSMrEnQm4sSZ9_DfUsTbGXE-RH1J-TzMkATbaAHf7rvTq2nHYWzhadN1B7JGhZ9Uv2QKaxy6CoxHaAMhNOFb1XNuWu5ohW6e_Dld_tC4WdN5GkZnSMZIQ/s3018/The+Sorrel+Dress+03.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2020" data-original-width="3018" height="419" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgEKOE2nalCl3HfQOecufwFKGNSMrEnQm4sSZ9_DfUsTbGXE-RH1J-TzMkATbaAHf7rvTq2nHYWzhadN1B7JGhZ9Uv2QKaxy6CoxHaAMhNOFb1XNuWu5ohW6e_Dld_tC4WdN5GkZnSMZIQ/w625-h419/The+Sorrel+Dress+03.jpg" width="625" /></a></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">I'm content with the pattern. Not over the moon with it, but happy. I'm thinking the kimono-sleeves aren't really my thing and my choice of fabric could've been better. However, there is one downside that I would like to mention: the instructions about the hem. If you follow them, you'll first topstitch the front panels of the dress and then sew hem the dress. This gives you a really awkward hem (pictured below). It doesn't really show with the busy fabric, but this is something that annoys me. </div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">My tip: first hem the dress and then topstitch the front. That way, you'll get a nice, crisp corner.</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj7C70_j58YApM2dnhQM_H6mBJcao2p7o9dokh_yOjgI4ZWyONgxXthVpaurgfUMKky_rP0_6uqHx4tlCnuWlenIkLJwdaectbImwKHznow0doZ-hW7P_a0VvLszRa0H26ZlKp8GR4un_M/s3018/The+Sorrel+Dress+07.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2021" data-original-width="3018" height="419" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj7C70_j58YApM2dnhQM_H6mBJcao2p7o9dokh_yOjgI4ZWyONgxXthVpaurgfUMKky_rP0_6uqHx4tlCnuWlenIkLJwdaectbImwKHznow0doZ-hW7P_a0VvLszRa0H26ZlKp8GR4un_M/w625-h419/The+Sorrel+Dress+07.jpg" width="625" /></a></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">Over all I'm not over the moon with the dress, but I'm content with it. My, my, how time flies by! I've said this before and I'll probably say that same sentence again. Because time does fly by! Ever since having kids, it seems like time is slipping through my fingers even faster than before.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
The boys are almost 1,5 years now. When I'm writing it down like that, it seems like 1,5 years is a long time But than again, looking back on those 1,5 years, they've gone by in no time! During that time, I haven't really been sewing much. Perhaps you'll remember the <a href="http://sewcotton.blogspot.com/2019/03/french-macaroon-sweaters.html" target="_blank">French Macaroons</a> that I knitted in spring last year or the <a href="http://sewcotton.blogspot.com/2019/03/petite-peg-legs.html" target="_blank">Petite Peg Legs</a> that I magically conjured when the twins were a few months old. But other than that, I haven't really made anything.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi7kWn2n_RBjHt_XKNmym39rEG8MPPc_a8lm9L2v7L7sO8aVCIOntilLiHEA9jqNYBdlGofd9bFrxouuwrmKvpBEKNSy_paNt6VqRpz0T5yTCDJ98LrSOWzahFx4vJyycE38s3BALo7dOU/s1600/Vielle+pattern+01.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1074" data-original-width="1600" height="428" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi7kWn2n_RBjHt_XKNmym39rEG8MPPc_a8lm9L2v7L7sO8aVCIOntilLiHEA9jqNYBdlGofd9bFrxouuwrmKvpBEKNSy_paNt6VqRpz0T5yTCDJ98LrSOWzahFx4vJyycE38s3BALo7dOU/s640/Vielle+pattern+01.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
That is, untill last week. I've had my mind on sewing for quite some time, but never really set my mind to it. Than with COVID-19 and everyone staying inside, I had to do something for me! Because between working from home, raising 2 kids of the same age and providing for the family, I felt like I didn't have time for myself. And then <a href="http://www.jenniferlaurenvintage.com/" target="_blank">Jennifer Lauren</a> released her <a href="https://jenniferlaurenhandmade.store/product/the-vielle-top/" target="_blank">Vielle Top</a>.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Oh, how I love Jennifer and the patterns she creates! Vintage with the ease of a modern pattern (or should I say Modern with the look of the days of old?). Simply seeing this top made me long for making it! So I told my OH that he could play his games while I went sewing again. Oh, the jump my heart made when I first cut out the pattern and than set myself behind the machine! How I've missed my sewing!</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
As with the <a href="https://sewcotton.blogspot.com/2017/11/the-gable-top.html" target="_blank">Gable Top</a> or the<a href="https://sewcotton.blogspot.com/2017/09/the-laneway-dress-v2-pretty-in-pink.html" target="_blank"> Laneway Dress</a>, I barely had to make any adjustments. Looking at the charts (and my old measurements), I cut the pattern between size 12 and 14. For this version, I took 2,5 cm (1") from mid back and tapered it to 0 at the sides. My usual adjustment for my sway back. More adjustments weren't done for this one.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjbMFacQRGz_eKJofFhXhNbQ_MkS8gfAJ3O2e4Kmro9ELav781FIIT6abPZzytLuGg7-UR9yBkVn0sx1bpJD9yLRQZ2v3Yxv_7nzV60EXiJxx4tXnE2eYguNOVMaHge-6hHQOtIw1PVI1Y/s1600/Vielle+Top+05.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1073" data-original-width="1600" height="428" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjbMFacQRGz_eKJofFhXhNbQ_MkS8gfAJ3O2e4Kmro9ELav781FIIT6abPZzytLuGg7-UR9yBkVn0sx1bpJD9yLRQZ2v3Yxv_7nzV60EXiJxx4tXnE2eYguNOVMaHge-6hHQOtIw1PVI1Y/s640/Vielle+Top+05.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I love how quick and easy this pattern is. The bow makes this top look even more pleasing to the eye. To be honest: the top came out a bit big. All my fault off course: I didn't take into consideration that I lost some weight and probably should've retake my measurements. But even if it is a bit looser than I would like, I love it to bits. In the last 2 weeks since I've made this, I've already wore it 4 times. It's comfortable enough for chasing 2 toddlers and looking good at the same time!</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I've paired this top with Shorts, hotpants, skirts (pencil and flared) and jeans. No matter the combo, I always felt fab and comfortable at the same time. Really loving this top.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I'm planning on making another version. This time, I'll take 1,5 cm (5/8") from the shoulders so the shoulderseams and sleeveseams hit each other at the right spot. I'll also be tapering down to size 12 (about 0,5cm (3/8") smaller at the sideseams).</div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br />
With
the cold weather at the beginning of the year, I decided that the twins
needed some winter sweaters. Because I couldn't find anything in the
stores that I liked enough, I decided to make one myself.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEir1WnCvDsViC0D4BHzPR6w3FkpKTXJIH9UyaumG6t4uf4XDEiYxQocbDpdsRO4JPv4Iy8NIARTe-Y6-Ds7Jz9xxuOdN2NFdFAO2Urq-wps_VmVvSMmnzBH-9fKIqQdACOKQBF69GvKKiE/s1600/Macaroon+Sweater+V2+1.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1210" data-original-width="1600" height="482" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEir1WnCvDsViC0D4BHzPR6w3FkpKTXJIH9UyaumG6t4uf4XDEiYxQocbDpdsRO4JPv4Iy8NIARTe-Y6-Ds7Jz9xxuOdN2NFdFAO2Urq-wps_VmVvSMmnzBH-9fKIqQdACOKQBF69GvKKiE/s640/Macaroon+Sweater+V2+1.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br />
As
always I searched the world wide web in search of a simple yet
interesting pattern that wouldn't cost too much (or nothing at all). My
go-to sources are alwas Pinterest and Ravelry. This particular pattern -
<a href="https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/french-macaroon-2" target="_blank">The French Macaroon</a> - was found on <a href="https://www.pinterest.com/pin/2533343527365114/" target="_blank">Pinterest</a>, but is a link to Ravelry. It's simple (just a ribble stitch) an interesting with the color change (which is also simple).</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg9T3P_gGSsDMBZsRVq2nL0H7dOoq_sLlA5Vu67O0MbgQ7bk7CF4UiTkLYkChF2oITROXQOoww7oYvsrzpqYAypAUrqR2f4aqy52nEyvocUWBn5fhTxNGb_KX_YKeLiFtOCxShnj6E7ZrU/s1600/Macaroon+Sweater+V2+3.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1205" data-original-width="1600" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg9T3P_gGSsDMBZsRVq2nL0H7dOoq_sLlA5Vu67O0MbgQ7bk7CF4UiTkLYkChF2oITROXQOoww7oYvsrzpqYAypAUrqR2f4aqy52nEyvocUWBn5fhTxNGb_KX_YKeLiFtOCxShnj6E7ZrU/s640/Macaroon+Sweater+V2+3.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br />
The
way the arms are knitted was something new to me. Instead of making it
seperate from the bodice, you just knit them on with a cast-onI wasn't
familiar with (I always use the longtail cast-on). The technique for
joining the shoulders was also new to me and I like it so much, that I'm
going to incoporate it in other knitted project. You need 3 needles: 2
to hold your stitches and 1 to bind-off.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">

<div style="text-align: justify;">
At
the first try (grey and green), the sleeves were a bit too long. So for
the second sweater (green and grey), I knitted the number of stitches
required for a size smalle (newborn). That was exactly right for my boys
with even some room left (but not too excessive).</div>

I really like this pattern and enjoyed learning some new thing. If you want to know more about the shoulder bind-off, follow <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ph93jWSzTa0" target="_blank">this Youtube video</a> that I used. For the 'unusual' cast-on of the sleeves, I followed <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4YUfdREnSQI" target="_blank">this Youtube tutorial</a>.</div>

<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
New Year's came and went, the days grew longer and before I knew it, March was just around the corner (like really, it's 2/28/2019 9:30 pm when I'm writing this). Time to make another blog post about what I've been up to lately. Even if it was a bit quiet on the blog, if you follow me on <a href="http://www.facebook.com/sewcotton" target="_blank">Facebook </a>and <a href="http://www.instagram.com/sew_cotton" target="_blank">Instagram</a> you've noticed that I have been busy sewing. And if you follow me on <a href="https://www.ravelry.com/people/Allynara" target="_blank">Ravelry</a>, you'll notice that I've also been knitting and crocheting (although that last one hasn't been finished yet)</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Life with twins goes by fast. It took a while to get used to 2 new babies, but once you've figured out what their schedules are, it's relatively easy. You'll even find time for your hobbies, believe it or not! It does help that the babies sleep very well and will even ignore the buzzing of my sewing machine. Even the overlock doesn't bother them. Yay!</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Back in January, when I decided I desperatly wanted to sew again, I sent a virtual SOS to fellow seamstresses on social media. It didn't take long untill numorous people directed me to <a href="https://www.patternsforpirates.com/" target="_blank">Patterns for Pirates</a> for easy to follow, quick and satisfying projects, with the <a href="https://www.patternsforpirates.com/product/petite-pegs/" target="_blank">Petite (Peg) Legs</a> as the ultimate pattern for this.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
So that's what I tried first. And I must say: the beehive was spot-on! It's a simple pattern that you can sew with your regular sewing machine and a zigzag stitch or just go for the overlock (and finish the hem with your regular machine). Oh, before I forget to mention it: it's a free pattern! What more do you want? Considering I don't sew very often with jersey (or the likes), nothing!</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEipzitkDkH4GGfK1fwh3capdAzkJCBL6lXmX1yMCUJlLsAxlmluMGbPHGyklGkNQvdVug9qQsh0kgIQZknLK7p3W9aqspYzCtu1qtVYUWjvSAY0zJYneAz-aa9kyy9xqvGUveb4eyqEEnE/s1600/Petite+Legs+4.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1074" data-original-width="1600" height="428" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEipzitkDkH4GGfK1fwh3capdAzkJCBL6lXmX1yMCUJlLsAxlmluMGbPHGyklGkNQvdVug9qQsh0kgIQZknLK7p3W9aqspYzCtu1qtVYUWjvSAY0zJYneAz-aa9kyy9xqvGUveb4eyqEEnE/s640/Petite+Legs+4.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
When I came across this foxy fabric, I knew I wanted to use this to make something for the boys. It just looks so joyful and playful! With some expert fitting (if I do say so myself), I was able to get 2 Peg Legs and 1 t-shirt out of a 0,5m x 1,5m (0,5 yards x 60") piece of fabric. 1 pants was made in size 3 months, one in size 6 months and the t-shirt was size 3 months. I'll blog about the t-shirt later.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjRU_bIlmllsKRfAvpla9j6DSdqOc9z8ugsoQ5sVPu556NWAZbAIwd4UegkjxVU8ltAz1YUSZDxC-guOwye9qyUDhcdrnRGlfEIj-ndGm8SWxg7AkSG0BkXOdCh6QrurxKuL5QTqjMBr10/s1600/Petite+Legs+3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1074" data-original-width="1600" height="428" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjRU_bIlmllsKRfAvpla9j6DSdqOc9z8ugsoQ5sVPu556NWAZbAIwd4UegkjxVU8ltAz1YUSZDxC-guOwye9qyUDhcdrnRGlfEIj-ndGm8SWxg7AkSG0BkXOdCh6QrurxKuL5QTqjMBr10/s640/Petite+Legs+3.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
The verdict? I love this pattern! The overall instructions are very clear, it sewed in about 30 minutes (cutting ànd sewing). However, I did miss something at first: on the pattern there is this box with numbers on. I didn't look at it that much because you're able to select the size you want to use for printing. So I thought I had everything and that every piece needed was a pattern piece. Not. After I had cut out everything, I realised that something was missing. The waistband. That little box on the pattern? Yup: waistband measurements. Luckilyn I was able to get both waistbands out of the remaining scrap fabric.</div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Did I mention that this pattern comes in different lengths and finishes? No? Well, it does :-) I made the longest version, without a cuff or anything, because I wanted something fast and simple. But you can alter how these look by using a cuff, shortening it, using a biais, piping, ... The possibilities are endless. And rest assured: there will be more Peg Legs coming out of my sewing machine!</div>

</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
2018 was over before it really began. So it's about time to line up last year's projects.<br />
<br />
It's been a really busy and overwhelming year. It started off real good with some projects. One of my first makes was this western wedding dress. When we got the invitation, I was truly at a loss at what to wear. I wanted to wear a dress (it was a wedding after all), but I also wanted to stick to the dresscode. Paired with some cowboyboots I think I really made the best of both worlds! You can read all about it in <a href="http://sewcotton.blogspot.com/2018/03/the-western-wedding-dress.html" target="_blank">this post</a>.</div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi9gG0KiSwZFSzKYYaV_y4Ma8SAzXjVhgFSvL-bJrRJzb0Q56aABaF_5f6_P-wc-BIAFc-yP5eSS4CIsJ5PlzJEFNSNHMXTxjk70kbWS5m7X8ABZ5REhWH5gFBj8Zxa2Un3y_JLFrlmGKk/s1600/Western+Wedding+Dress+3.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1074" data-original-width="1600" height="428" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi9gG0KiSwZFSzKYYaV_y4Ma8SAzXjVhgFSvL-bJrRJzb0Q56aABaF_5f6_P-wc-BIAFc-yP5eSS4CIsJ5PlzJEFNSNHMXTxjk70kbWS5m7X8ABZ5REhWH5gFBj8Zxa2Un3y_JLFrlmGKk/s640/Western+Wedding+Dress+3.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Before I even finished the western wedding dress, I was toying with the idea of a classic winter dress. One with a lot of 'body/poof'. With a pattern in mind and the right fabric, I knew how I was going to tackle this one! Read more about the Blue Winterdress <a href="http://sewcotton.blogspot.com/2018/03/the-blue-winter-dress.html" target="_blank">here</a>.</div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Still loving the blue winterdress and that fabulous fabric, I couldn't resist the urge to make a <a href="http://sewcotton.blogspot.com/2018/04/a-poofy-winter-skirt.html" target="_blank">winterskirt </a>out of it. And since I don't have a lot of blue in my closet, I also made a <a href="http://sewcotton.blogspot.com/2018/04/a-simple-alma-blouse.html" target="_blank">matching blouse</a> to go with it.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">

<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
And then suddenly I disappeared. Or at least, I didn't post on the blog for 6 whole months! No explanation, no nothing. And that after als these amazing projects I recently finished! What in the world happened?</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
In <a href="http://sewcotton.blogspot.com/2018/10/news-x2.html" target="_blank">october</a> I finally shared why I so suddenly disappeared: my husband and I were expecting twins! Even though I really loved my recent makes, I didn't really get to wear them much in 2018. By april, most dresses didn't fit anymore! It really is mindblowing how fast your belly grows when you're expecting twins. Because I rarely post any personal stuff on this blog and don't share my personal life online, you were kept in the dark until there was about 1 month left!<br />
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjSaKkudws3txQrNO1JzlWGWKlXjiBBUzCkG8Oa9vI_I29HvkaCJfURrHrNyQUHZHzz7QdYtbLfSeCYAWaOWHNwL_-2oX44kc5jDv620UCvykX1tK4h63egYfrOxWgZSC4Ke8m-scSdrds/s1600/Maternity+Dress+04.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1074" data-original-width="1600" height="428" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjSaKkudws3txQrNO1JzlWGWKlXjiBBUzCkG8Oa9vI_I29HvkaCJfURrHrNyQUHZHzz7QdYtbLfSeCYAWaOWHNwL_-2oX44kc5jDv620UCvykX1tK4h63egYfrOxWgZSC4Ke8m-scSdrds/s640/Maternity+Dress+04.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
A few weeks later I shared the only <a href="http://sewcotton.blogspot.com/2018/10/a-vintage-maternity-dress.html" target="_blank">maternity dress</a> I ever made. I really like the model of the dress, but I didn't felt comfortable. It felt like I wasn't wearing anything. Perfect for the hot summer we were having, but I didn't want to feel naked. So I wore it 3 times, if that.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhEgjy2hblLqUazhnGbRogERnKbqHkTm_9KYaABkPaIOtaytU2lzBur2mI7KJKiYOvKEle8D9R23jG-r_aO9frzF_YwvsNTESLKoWf5sVblLG32gsxHtMDIACX7N71xK8CqIIR481IkJNY/s1600/Maternity+Dress+01.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1074" data-original-width="1600" height="428" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhEgjy2hblLqUazhnGbRogERnKbqHkTm_9KYaABkPaIOtaytU2lzBur2mI7KJKiYOvKEle8D9R23jG-r_aO9frzF_YwvsNTESLKoWf5sVblLG32gsxHtMDIACX7N71xK8CqIIR481IkJNY/s640/Maternity+Dress+01.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
By then, sewing wasn't an easy task. My back was killing me and my belly was simply too big. I could barely reach my sewing machine! So I turned to other hobbies that I could still do: Knitting and crochet. Soon, these two <a href="http://sewcotton.blogspot.com/2018/10/baby-wrap-vests.html" target="_blank">cute wrap vests</a> were born :-) </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">

<div style="text-align: justify;">
A few weeks later, I finished these <a href="https://1congn1to.blogspot.com/http://sewcotton.blogspot.com/2018/10/baby-spencers.html/10/baby-debardeurs.html" target="_blank">spencers</a>. Classic and cute, but babyclothes are always cute! Heck, babies are super cute!</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">

<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Between knitting the wrap vests and spencers, I crocheted two <a href="http://sewcotton.blogspot.com/2018/11/family-extension.html" target="_blank">baby blankets</a>. Because I added the names of the twins to these, I had to wait until the babies were born to share the blankets with you. These blankets are easy to make, but take a lot more time than let's say a little baby sweater.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>

<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
After this, the blog went quiet for a bit. A baby requires a lot of time and attention - happily given - and twins ask twice as much! 2 babies, twice the time and attention, but also twice the love! After the birth announcements on <a href="http://www.facebook.com/sewcotton" target="_blank">Facebook</a> and <a href="http://www.instagram.com/sew_cotton" target="_blank">Instagram</a>, it went quiet again. I didn't have a lot of time to sew, knit or crochet.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
During my pregnancy I was really looking forward to wearing my dresses, blouses and skirts from 2017-2018 again. So instead of creating something new, I would honor all the 'older' (but barely worn) creations. I'll keep you updated on <a href="http://www.facebook.com/sewcotton" target="_blank">FB </a>and <a href="http://www.instagram.com/sew_cotton" target="_blank">Instagram</a><br />
<br />
There's only one more thing to say, better late than never: </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>

While waiting for the boys to arrive, I completed several knitting projects to keep myself busy. You've already seen the <a href="http://sewcotton.blogspot.com/2018/10/baby-wrap-vests.html">wrap vests</a>, <a href="http://sewcotton.blogspot.com/2018/10/baby-spencers.html">spencers</a>, <a href="https://sewcotton.blogspot.com/2018/11/family-extension.html">blankets </a>and <a href="https://sewcotton.blogspot.com/2018/11/baby-anklets.html">anklets </a>for the babies as well as a <a href="https://sewcotton.blogspot.com/2018/11/classic-spencer.html">spencer</a> for adults. As if this wasn't enough, I also made a sweater for myself.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjJIzNo9VCyC3SLHGfxoezYg8NIdSPzyxLPlOicfweWfVwVvbEQD10dvB5iyDVRWiHGNF1RdeHLZrN5jo-ggx6qJv-PrrQWR46Vveo2_rkCFy4S6T9NdIhs020rAaZ9-Jl4ioTzpONleqs/s1600/Fluffy+Winter+Sweater+02.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1074" data-original-width="1600" height="428" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjJIzNo9VCyC3SLHGfxoezYg8NIdSPzyxLPlOicfweWfVwVvbEQD10dvB5iyDVRWiHGNF1RdeHLZrN5jo-ggx6qJv-PrrQWR46Vveo2_rkCFy4S6T9NdIhs020rAaZ9-Jl4ioTzpONleqs/s640/Fluffy+Winter+Sweater+02.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
This beautiful wool has been in my closet for at least 2 years. When I bought it, I envisioned this nice, cosy, fluffy winter sweater with some nice details to it. It took me a while to finally get to it, but when I did, I couldn't find a pattern that corresponded with what I had in mind. So I figured I had to create one myself. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Luckily, I've got a few knitting referencebooks in my possession. Most are for beginners (like for knitting socks), but I've also got this book with a wide variety of stitches and patterns. It was in this last one that I found the cable pattern that I needed. The small cable isn't as visible as I would've liked, but I really like how this sweater turned out. I used the same cable pattern for the frond and the back. I can't wait to wear this one!</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">

<div style="text-align: justify;">
Do you want to know how to make this cable yourself? Go to the <a href="https://www.ravelry.com/projects/Allynara/white-winter" target="_blank">Ravelry-page</a> of this project. I wrote out how you can achieve this cabled pattern. The pattern for the sweater itself, is one I generated through CostumFit by Amy Herzog. It's the same model as <a href="https://www.ravelry.com/projects/Allynara/simple-orange-sweater" target="_blank">this sweater</a> and <a href="https://www.ravelry.com/projects/Allynara/simple-cable-sweater" target="_blank">this one</a>, but adapted to the wool and needles I used for the fluffy sweater.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjBPAoV6ghyphenhyphenVQ5XkMOEfyQGVqkhza1-KcS9Du7ywzJcgyvQdpBeoGHMi5NlZrz_WP8CfIKJytaLaCmrWTPSOeZnUJ7SnQ-babh74eZCjumTLnSdMkhm5J0ZuWVngti-bzda3WxWBMKJQqs/s1600/Blue+Spencer+01.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1074" data-original-width="1600" height="428" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjBPAoV6ghyphenhyphenVQ5XkMOEfyQGVqkhza1-KcS9Du7ywzJcgyvQdpBeoGHMi5NlZrz_WP8CfIKJytaLaCmrWTPSOeZnUJ7SnQ-babh74eZCjumTLnSdMkhm5J0ZuWVngti-bzda3WxWBMKJQqs/s640/Blue+Spencer+01.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
In my last post I'd hinted at this next project. Back in september I finished a classic spencer for my husband. He told me he didn't really like it. Not because of my knitting (he made very sure to stress that, the sweetheart), but he didn't like the pattern. He thought it was too feminine for his liking, mostly because of the borders at the shoulders and neckline.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhErVDHVm5uhkIjRMTzyzf5msc0UtGaWwKn3IrfVpvcBfDwQsGWDgkVnJgrzu4-ns1F5DA2-EoHeUkEYMAHAlktbhNPcwsiU99hXj37w_alCjIMMIhyphenhyphenEfuNagWlYemhLSv8TPHJrvkkHb4/s1600/Blue+Spencer+02.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1074" data-original-width="1600" height="428" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhErVDHVm5uhkIjRMTzyzf5msc0UtGaWwKn3IrfVpvcBfDwQsGWDgkVnJgrzu4-ns1F5DA2-EoHeUkEYMAHAlktbhNPcwsiU99hXj37w_alCjIMMIhyphenhyphenEfuNagWlYemhLSv8TPHJrvkkHb4/s640/Blue+Spencer+02.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
When looking at it on my dressmaker's dummy (which is feminine off course), I have to say he's right. Aside from the bigger borders he found that the V-neck was way too deep for a man. Because I really don't like to give up this wool and the work that I've put into is, I'm not going to give it away (which I usually do when projects don't get worn or I just don't like them as much). So for now, I'm going to keep it to wear it myself. Wether or not it'll get worn is something only the future can tell.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhf4GOK_x-0AgtgKwQstnu1QjPHRrVhO3ij5bEZSRzFLDx_9m6izFIclza0VDAhs3rQL5V4XC6qTsKtQkDHU9NEIVhp8m9gOBIsn_B68JtcCPeTZhKKR6tGls6wVOCFcRTwAj82AK9jsJI/s1600/Blue+Spencer+03.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1072" data-original-width="1600" height="428" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhf4GOK_x-0AgtgKwQstnu1QjPHRrVhO3ij5bEZSRzFLDx_9m6izFIclza0VDAhs3rQL5V4XC6qTsKtQkDHU9NEIVhp8m9gOBIsn_B68JtcCPeTZhKKR6tGls6wVOCFcRTwAj82AK9jsJI/s640/Blue+Spencer+03.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Every time that I hold this spencer, I'm amazed at the quality of the wool. Firm but really soft at the same time and comfortably warm. When winter really hits, early next year, this will be perfect to pair with a nice blouse or something alike. So it would really be a shame to just get rid of it. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjSWlK90229hfHUvKWyueDj70JTgKvi6EyWsBysu0Zft9idlsEaFVmOHTwyPLquaHocKrQzEYFrFlJtECW7JcYJeL_1J5aclApInyBieG4IgaBVk3IVcAPMm7GSgEAJ4x-q0dDiUqiVsi4/s1600/Blue+Spencer+04.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1074" data-original-width="1600" height="428" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjSWlK90229hfHUvKWyueDj70JTgKvi6EyWsBysu0Zft9idlsEaFVmOHTwyPLquaHocKrQzEYFrFlJtECW7JcYJeL_1J5aclApInyBieG4IgaBVk3IVcAPMm7GSgEAJ4x-q0dDiUqiVsi4/s640/Blue+Spencer+04.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I used the Peter Easy pattern from Berrocco Design Team without any adjustments in size XS. I used a little shy of 4 skeins of wool, about 600m. More details about the pattern and such are on my Ravelry-page for <a href="https://www.ravelry.com/projects/Allynara/peter-easy" target="_blank">this project</a>.</div>

The last few days before the birth of the boys, I was getting more and more anxious. I was happy and really looking forward to meeting them, but this was a dive into the unknown for us. And if you don't know something, you don't know what to expect from it, so I got a little nervous. A few days before their birth, I suddenly worried that I wasn't going to be able to tell them apart. Before I didn't really think of it as an issue, but in those last few days it was suddenly this biiiiiiig thing that I HAD to solve!</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
The solution to my 'problem' is actually really simple. In a facebookgroup for identical twins, I had seen other moms post about how they did it. Most twinmama's seem to go for one of these solutions:</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<ol>
<li>Bracelets or Anklets</li>
<li>Painting a toenail </li>
</ol>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
As I'm not a big fan of painting the boy's toenails, I opted for bracelets or anklets. NOt very hard to make, but what size did I make them? Remember, the boys waren't born yet, so I couldn't really measure their wrists or ankles. I ended up just winging it. </div>
<br />
<br />
Curious about the patterns and what size I ended up making? Go look at my <a href="https://www.ravelry.com/projects/Allynara/easy-peasy-anklet" target="_blank">Ravelry page</a>.<br />

<div style="text-align: justify;">
Now that everybody in our private life knows it, I can happily share the good news with you guys!</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
The twins are born!</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Please welcome Victor and Léon into this world! When I'm writing this post, I'm still pregnant, but the date has been set (they don't let identical/monozygotic twins go past 37 weeks). So I'll update you on <a href="http://www.facebook.com/sewcotton" target="_blank">Facebook </a>and <a href="http://www.instagram.com/sew_cotton" target="_blank">Instagram </a>on their weights and birthdate (if I haven't done that already). </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Now that they are born and everybody knows there name, I can FINALLY share the blankets I crocheted for them. I don't knit very often en I crochet even less. But by now I'm fairely adept with making big and small granny squares. So these blankets are just one big granny square with 2 different colors. For the names, I used a newly aquired technique called Surface Crocheting. The letters aren't perfect (some seem bigger than others), but I really like them. They are perfect for keeping our little bundles of joy cosy and warm.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
After making the <a href="http://sewcotton.blogspot.com/2018/10/baby-wrap-vests.html">Wrap Vests</a>, I didn't really make something for a couple of months (sewing or knitting). The Wrap Vests were finished back in may 2018, if I remember correctly, and it took me until september/october to start the next project. Just because I wanted to make something again and sewing wasn't an option anymore </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
When I go looking for my next knitting project, I always check out <a href="https://www.ravelry.com/" target="_blank">Ravelry</a> first. Only when I find nothing on Ravelry, I'll check out Pinterest. Ravelry is a free platform for people who like to knit and crochet. There are over 350k patterns made by desingers on Ravelry, this includes free patterns and patterns you need to pay for. I've used both (i.e. <a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhQhL2xo7yUi5dUlaQJ255vxOqCMAn6uhzBkmu4iu435xlAhymhLRHNuFA29ELZUpAVvaequTt9A263dSeDxRkOSDVu2cxeM0xmmukvmwB9OySYKn4OeDK-9yH-UlYwA99A7JteCD_wghc/">this </a>was a paid pattern, worn for <a href="http://sewcotton.blogspot.com/2016/05/mmmay16-overview-week-2.html">MMM 2016</a>)</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Because I'm not really good at adjusting knitting patterns, I'll use <a href="https://customfit.amyherzogdesigns.com/home/" target="_blank">Amy Herzog's CustomFit</a> when I'm knitting a full sweater (like <a href="https://www.ravelry.com/projects/Allynara/simple-orange-sweater">this one</a>). You've got a few options concerning your account. If you choose the free account, you'll need to buy each Costum pattern ($10/pattern). You could also opt to get a membership (i.e. the first option is a membership for 2 patterns a month at $6). The only disadvantage about these memberships - if you ask me - is that if you don't use your 2 patterns, you'll loose them. They don't 'add up' in your account month after month. Because I usually don't knit very often (1 or 2 new patterns a year, if at all), for me the first option is less expensive. The patterns you've created/bought stay put in your library and you can download them over and over again if needed. When making a pattern, you can adapt it to your preferences. I usually go with a basic pattern without any designs and if I want a design, I just incorporate it. This way, I can use 1 pattern many times.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
But let's get back to why I'm writing this post: my finished knitted little projects :-) </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgy2g1SDG3udmU2-8XqIGU34sch3Cd3nmWdPm_SDFim_XuulMR8Fm15V0ETDfstb3kpP1IyGKm-42quBK-aB_3RHDvQHY8MQ_z-pY3iojBq_y4QZD9KQcFk7ULXt9qp5cqdxCp5Mnas58I/s1600/Debardeur+tweeling+02.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1074" data-original-width="1600" height="428" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgy2g1SDG3udmU2-8XqIGU34sch3Cd3nmWdPm_SDFim_XuulMR8Fm15V0ETDfstb3kpP1IyGKm-42quBK-aB_3RHDvQHY8MQ_z-pY3iojBq_y4QZD9KQcFk7ULXt9qp5cqdxCp5Mnas58I/s640/Debardeur+tweeling+02.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
With Christmas in mind, I was looking for something cute for the twins to wear. Because baby's are teeny tiny, anything they wear is super cute. Originally I wanted my husband and the twins in matching Spencers (also called vests or debardeur) and I would make something similar that would be a bit more feminine and fit with the dress I had in mind wearing. But it wasn't meant to be. After I knitted the spencer for my husband, he thought it was way to feminine for his liking. I even asked my mother what she thought of it and she said exactly the same (she originally thought I'd made it for myself). So I'll need to wear it or sell it. Haven't made up my mind yet. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Even though the spencer for my hubby wasn't a big hit, I really like the spencers I made for the babies. It was a quick little project with a fun design that didn't use up too much wool. After knitting the adult spencer, I had just enough wool left to make 2 of these. And I really mean jùst enough: I had about 20cm (8inches) of thread left when finishing the second one. For a moment I didn't think I'd make it. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgdJIDn3A3QTf6J4tmpoO4FrNdEsEWh3lklLt_7sfdMx2xV5AWPIDu3A0R-t98Zmrdp2WFMut4nWgbFOw26ilNRn9q6DCcddtk2NMfsMpxulsmBeuf0JPiNtm6BLyOFAM6U0qrzOuY_UYU/s1600/Debardeur+tweeling+03.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1074" data-original-width="1600" height="428" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgdJIDn3A3QTf6J4tmpoO4FrNdEsEWh3lklLt_7sfdMx2xV5AWPIDu3A0R-t98Zmrdp2WFMut4nWgbFOw26ilNRn9q6DCcddtk2NMfsMpxulsmBeuf0JPiNtm6BLyOFAM6U0qrzOuY_UYU/s640/Debardeur+tweeling+03.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I used the <a href="https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/julian-vest" target="_blank">Julian Vest by Raya Budrevich</a>. It's a simple pattern that knits up easily. You'll only need to know how to knit, purl, do yarn overs and use circilar needles. It might seem much with the yarn overs and circilar needles, but it really isn't. It's very basic. If you're a confident beginner (and yes, I still count myself as a confident beginner), this is totally doable. Perhaps you'll need to try a time or two, but you'll get the hang of it soon enough!</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
You can find a bit more information on my Ravelry page for <a href="https://www.ravelry.com/projects/Allynara/julian-vest-2" target="_blank">these spencers</a>, like which wool I used and how many.</div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
My very first project for the twins were these cute little wrap vests, made out of 100% wool. It's a simple ribble stitch with an interesting detail to the sides of the wrap. Unfortunately, you can't really see that detail on these versions because of the different colors and textures this wool was made of. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">

<div style="text-align: justify;">

<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
The pattern is 'Wikkelvest' from the book 'Mama-Baby breiboek' (Wrap vest from Mama - Baby knitting book). It was knitted for the newborn stage (0-3 months), but I'm guessing it'll be a bit too big in the first few weeks. Twins usually run a bit smaller as singletons because they have less room (duh). </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">

<div style="text-align: justify;">
I liked the pattern very much. It was easy to knit and didn't use too much wool (yeay for small projects!). </div>

<br />
As soon as I'd found out I was pregnant, I knew I wanted to sew (some) of my own pregnancy clothing. That way, I could stay in the 50's - 60's-vibe that I love. So back in May, I came across several vintage maternity patterns. It took me a while to find one that I liked. Back in the day, you were supposed to not show that you were pregnant (as in: wear baggy clothes). This was something totally different than what I had expected. Normally formfitting with an emphasis on the waist and big skirts, the 50's were big and baggy at the top with cigarette pants or adjusted pencil skirts at the bottom. Not really my kind of style. Below are some examples of what I mean.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjUDmY4hbLhr4d1QFtNXECTSSwFDQOvSy4-vzF8HaIMCYWRk16HMUv1I62Lt27tmHKX1VYKbZ8uIkG1wtYyuFzvX0uCLv4Se8yHvk01DKnnszF0OvWlaPqipSBAioIyKtLmKTZYYJokP_0/s1600/Vintage+Maternity+01.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="800" data-original-width="549" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjUDmY4hbLhr4d1QFtNXECTSSwFDQOvSy4-vzF8HaIMCYWRk16HMUv1I62Lt27tmHKX1VYKbZ8uIkG1wtYyuFzvX0uCLv4Se8yHvk01DKnnszF0OvWlaPqipSBAioIyKtLmKTZYYJokP_0/s320/Vintage+Maternity+01.jpg" width="219" /></a></div>

Like I said, not really my style. Eventually I'd found some that I did like because they weren't as baggy or at least they didn't look as baggy. So I went ahead and got these ones:<br />

<br />
<br />
I ended up making View 1 from Simplicity 7558. It's a very simple pattern that comes together quickly. I really like the overall look of the finished dress, but when wearing, I simply don't feel comfortable. It feels as if I'm looking really fat (although I know that isn't the case). I simply feel very selfconscious in this dress.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiStc9PkzuOIYQ991mGHD70VSpp_HZVLY6a2eP3qZONB3xB8ot70fLqD4hArWtPdKzuriTsFh6ge4bdZ-3R-wZQb6dtHN1o8xev7yZP0iFuVMACaqg1IibOVhhq1gnMJ_dKZclXTb-fsrY/s1600/Maternity+Dress+03.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1074" data-original-width="1600" height="428" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiStc9PkzuOIYQ991mGHD70VSpp_HZVLY6a2eP3qZONB3xB8ot70fLqD4hArWtPdKzuriTsFh6ge4bdZ-3R-wZQb6dtHN1o8xev7yZP0iFuVMACaqg1IibOVhhq1gnMJ_dKZclXTb-fsrY/s640/Maternity+Dress+03.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
The thing I like most about this dress is it's collar and the strap. When I'm not pregnant anymore (and find some spare time after caring for 2 kiddo's), I will try to recreate this for regular wear. Just with a fitted back, empire waistline and small gathers for a little flowiness at the front.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiwmjIy42Myu7l85b9yhzpT-MkFEdYyUn7Hp6K5V-c8Wf3yh_U_9eKXSrcphs43yUoWqr9zJaTBveoxsUikGrvATjkNzEClZO3R6d0AfY9pSFAVB-6iVcP8tGeCHjgZYH5ts5hmGx59ZwI/s1600/Maternity+Dress+02.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1074" data-original-width="1600" height="428" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiwmjIy42Myu7l85b9yhzpT-MkFEdYyUn7Hp6K5V-c8Wf3yh_U_9eKXSrcphs43yUoWqr9zJaTBveoxsUikGrvATjkNzEClZO3R6d0AfY9pSFAVB-6iVcP8tGeCHjgZYH5ts5hmGx59ZwI/s640/Maternity+Dress+02.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
Conclusion: I like the style, but I just don't feel comfortable wearing it. So I stopped sewing vintage maternity (also because my back simply couldn't handle it).Allynarahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05506508640667783645noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4329512412419740850.post-85229864328820978712018-10-10T14:30:00.000+02:002018-10-10T14:30:05.157+02:00News x2<div style="text-align: justify;">
Sooooooo, I guess I've got some explaining to do. I disappeared on you guys for almost 6 whole months! It wasn't due to lack of interest in blogging or because I stopped sewing. I simply had a little secret that I didn't want to share with the rest of the world, yet. But now that this secret is coming to a close (4 more weeks, people!), I guess it's time to let the cat out of the bag! </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
I'm Pregnant!<br /><div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Yep, you read that right. When I'm writing this, I'm 8 months pregnant already. And to make this suprise even more special: there are 2 babies growing inside me! When we first heard the news, we were overwhelmed. We never thought that was even a possibility for us. Now that I'm 8 months, we had the time to get used to the idea of getting twins, know what we are going to do (but does one ever really know?) and are really looking forward to meeting these 2!</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhwf8HUM-w-aBiYj9uqFkEkqOSOGd3mO5yl7iDzfmDhOija-M0SJs6K_iGolC8etyzUbWEZDy97Afrr3KDlQz4KOAQ_h0Ja4QSbFc0jerzk_rE9POm1SWDuMFA3yzf6kPdSsZj7IZcIg-E/s1600/Maternity+Dress+04.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1074" data-original-width="1600" height="428" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhwf8HUM-w-aBiYj9uqFkEkqOSOGd3mO5yl7iDzfmDhOija-M0SJs6K_iGolC8etyzUbWEZDy97Afrr3KDlQz4KOAQ_h0Ja4QSbFc0jerzk_rE9POm1SWDuMFA3yzf6kPdSsZj7IZcIg-E/s640/Maternity+Dress+04.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
So my pregnancy is the main reason why I haven't been keeping in touch. I really couldn't sew much. In these last 6 months I only managed to sew 1 maternity dress and started on some baby booties. The dress got finished, but the booties are laying here half sewn. Sewing simply isn't comfortable anymore. My back ages way too much to keep it up. So instead of sewing, I went with some of my other handcrafts: knitting and crochet.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I'll be posting some of my knitting soon. The crocheting will have to wait untill after the babies are born. We wouldn't want to spoil everything and announce the names and gender ahead of time, now would we?</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
So in a few days, you'll see some blog posts popping up that are a bit less sewing related as before, but still fun little projects!</div>

<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhyALbyoUvh0yEFs7at5XkYcR9zOnRzZWO-QsZsUmSQp8FC67XUVc6enbiEDsKlJqJEPa92w2Zv9mb9kkxQ51dVdOIybLAq3_FjuNZI64DqIG69rcHjH2fXFw1K9OhcC_ZMRfKo_SunoQQ/s1600/Simple+Alma+Blouse+1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1074" data-original-width="1600" height="428" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhyALbyoUvh0yEFs7at5XkYcR9zOnRzZWO-QsZsUmSQp8FC67XUVc6enbiEDsKlJqJEPa92w2Zv9mb9kkxQ51dVdOIybLAq3_FjuNZI64DqIG69rcHjH2fXFw1K9OhcC_ZMRfKo_SunoQQ/s640/Simple+Alma+Blouse+1.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
While I was at it (the sewing spree, that is. Read <a href="https://sewcotton.blogspot.be/2018/03/the-blue-winter-dress.html" target="_blank">here</a> and <a href="https://sewcotton.blogspot.be/2018/04/a-poofy-winter-skirt.html" target="_blank">here</a>), I decided that I needed a blouse to go with the skirt I just made. So the very next day I dived into my pattern library and dug up the <a href="https://www.sewaholicpatterns.com/alma-blouse/" target="_blank">Alma Blouse</a> from <a href="https://www.sewaholicpatterns.com/" target="_blank">Sewaholic</a>.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Because I made this one a couple of years ago <a href="https://sewcotton.blogspot.be/search?q=alma+blouse" target="_blank">several times</a>, I didn't alter anything else than what I did back then. I knew this was going to be a flattering wardrobe staple. Sewaholic's patterns usually are. Although it has been a while since I last made one (been to busy with vintage sewing patterns and the likes), it was a walk in the park. Quick and easy put together, great fit, easy to follow instructions, ...</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi7RR2gGdV3EhW9-2DnXZImjTBWzF_WFmXo-nCxRrqy5pSq_tG3asodX38GS2VnA4Yhi8tvIigMmkzdIjtrlGXIMPcaZjOZZZvr-K4aFhQBWO3GFRI1MzTo5ab0_7oir8DUFxQGsuppkK8/s1600/Simple+Alma+Blouse+2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1074" data-original-width="1600" height="428" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi7RR2gGdV3EhW9-2DnXZImjTBWzF_WFmXo-nCxRrqy5pSq_tG3asodX38GS2VnA4Yhi8tvIigMmkzdIjtrlGXIMPcaZjOZZZvr-K4aFhQBWO3GFRI1MzTo5ab0_7oir8DUFxQGsuppkK8/s640/Simple+Alma+Blouse+2.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
So yeah. Just a plain and simple blouse. I opted to leave the Peter Pan colar off - even though I loved it in the past. At first because I couldn't find the exact white that I wanted for the colar and later because I wanted a quick fix :-) This pattern is one of my TNT-patterns (= Tried-and-True), so I'm bound to make another one in the future.</div>

<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi1KSOd_ch0Y4-IinlQUi5ZVNDAw8IQMK4ZsUD2BL6lBnZZ0eLhBLmeIUl9Ey25LG98ymKYWZLEItzQqrqVPEtgCPYUwtL9F8o-rKQsjgKPelCzzJfZJL8P0X54Bsi72aAQheDZUJg56uE/s1600/McCall%2527s+5591.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1074" data-original-width="1600" height="428" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi1KSOd_ch0Y4-IinlQUi5ZVNDAw8IQMK4ZsUD2BL6lBnZZ0eLhBLmeIUl9Ey25LG98ymKYWZLEItzQqrqVPEtgCPYUwtL9F8o-rKQsjgKPelCzzJfZJL8P0X54Bsi72aAQheDZUJg56uE/s640/McCall%2527s+5591.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
So, after I made the <a href="https://sewcotton.blogspot.be/2018/03/the-blue-winter-dress.html" target="_blank">Blue Winter Dress</a>, I was inspired to make a poofy skirt out of the same fabric. When I bought the fabric, I bought 4m (+4 yards) because I didn't know what exact type of dress I wanted to make. So I had more than enough for 2 dresses if I wanted to.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://images.patternreview.com/sewing/patterns/mccall/5591/5591.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="591" data-original-width="450" height="320" src="https://images.patternreview.com/sewing/patterns/mccall/5591/5591.jpg" width="243" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Inspired, I went looking for a skirt pattern that I first made in 2011: McCall's5591 . I loved the style but I wasn't a confident sewist back then. At first, I forgot to underline or line the skirt and it was a bit see thru. I also didn't add pockets because I was afraid of it. Fast forward 7 years later, and I'm glad I didn't attempted those pockets back then. Man, they would've been a pain in the ass. They were now! The problem with these pockets are the plackets. I love the detail they give to the dress, but I put them on, ripped them off, put them on again and again for at least 6 or 7 times. I simply didn't 'get' how they would come to the outside wen sewn the way it was. Then finally it hid me: I thought I had to put both right sides together, but the wrong side of the 'placket' had to go to the right sight of the skirt. With that realization, I put the skirt to rest for a couple of hours. Otherwise, I would most definitely ruin it.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjh-zXlDoePDODLa1i-trik12UI36fHqjbJZNbh2RK1gbqYMLYJcN6ga5quo1xvvrlHdm2IgugFaxMG3wSGQtWmpocEN6L9f-eI8gQQmz_mpcMBsI-Yu1uQ7iN-3aaPHUtiqka09dDrvaw/s1600/McCall%2527s+5591+4.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1074" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjh-zXlDoePDODLa1i-trik12UI36fHqjbJZNbh2RK1gbqYMLYJcN6ga5quo1xvvrlHdm2IgugFaxMG3wSGQtWmpocEN6L9f-eI8gQQmz_mpcMBsI-Yu1uQ7iN-3aaPHUtiqka09dDrvaw/s640/McCall%2527s+5591+4.jpg" width="428" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
So after about 3 hours, I picked it back up and went on my merry way with sewing. I had a few more struggles with the sides of the pockets (still not a perfect finish, but it'll do) and the zipper. The zipper-struggle has more to do with the fact that this fabric is really thick and that I'm not used to inserting regular zippers. These days I find it easier to add an invisible one, due to all the dresses I make ;-)</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
So, the skirt was finished. I didn't really like how it fitted, but couldn't say what was wrong with it. So I went to show my husband. He looked at me strange and said: those pleats don't do exactly the same. One goes to the bottom of the dress and the other doesn't. That's just weird. So I looked at the skirt again and now I saw what was bothering me. I folded one of the inner pleats to the wrong sides'. Argh!!!</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh3kcPsbB323wVfct_x65VKU7QK_K9426oeH1urs6HOgpda5vPdpS4boQdBtK2RMBgOM_sXQJzrntNXOlvZcW4OP2OMaCSrM4MGXwm8DBSGFtGs56BGcgP7xQ-HolilHOzCo67yvFszq10/s1600/McCall%2527s+5591+3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1074" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh3kcPsbB323wVfct_x65VKU7QK_K9426oeH1urs6HOgpda5vPdpS4boQdBtK2RMBgOM_sXQJzrntNXOlvZcW4OP2OMaCSrM4MGXwm8DBSGFtGs56BGcgP7xQ-HolilHOzCo67yvFszq10/s640/McCall%2527s+5591+3.jpg" width="428" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
At that time I really hated this skirt. Why couldn't this one just cooperate and be as perfect as I imagined? So I got to know my seamripper even better as I worked my way through the front of the dress until I could turn said pleat in the right direction. I also took out the pleats in the back. Apparently, my but has grown over the years and I needed that extra fabric over there. The day after, I re-sewed the seams closed and Ta-Da! A skirt to be loved!</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjS8LSoGWDgLU_WtyOmxxTBWJU90F6XPAZo4faTmqOwV-c1pXq4Chh6sEXmH8FitxBBLRYUBA_ybDJ6-Jis-oizH6XhDiW5fiuLpjB44jDVOYjIvgoRzaG_MlbJoxnZAOqs8KYS46iermA/s1600/McCall%2527s+5591+2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1074" data-original-width="1600" height="428" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjS8LSoGWDgLU_WtyOmxxTBWJU90F6XPAZo4faTmqOwV-c1pXq4Chh6sEXmH8FitxBBLRYUBA_ybDJ6-Jis-oizH6XhDiW5fiuLpjB44jDVOYjIvgoRzaG_MlbJoxnZAOqs8KYS46iermA/s640/McCall%2527s+5591+2.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
All-in-all: though I really like this pattern, I'm not sure I'll make it again. The instructions aren't clear, which caused me a lot of trouble with the pockets and I really did not like sewing this skirt. Wearing it is something different :-D</div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Back in December/January - when it was getting really cold - I got an idea for a winter dress. Before too long, I'd found myself in the fabric shop and found the perfect fabric for the project that I had in mind. I wanted a simple dress with a vintage flair and poofy skirt without all the petticoats and circle skirts. In short: a classic dress that I could wear to work and still be in the 50's style that I like so much.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgLtiflEQBLDGHdBvXu32dJmWNH8lyasKR40GBDs_xlBIZ0nK2iZ72l-qMRBIy1j7jMrFX-mFRJMXCvUXb__U5XtIG9GtXziIjGzlmaEDNOiS1wXMUuGLqhb9dOxwMkI103E-xBH0egtGQ/s1600/Blue+Winter+Dress+Sketch.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="738" data-original-width="978" height="301" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgLtiflEQBLDGHdBvXu32dJmWNH8lyasKR40GBDs_xlBIZ0nK2iZ72l-qMRBIy1j7jMrFX-mFRJMXCvUXb__U5XtIG9GtXziIjGzlmaEDNOiS1wXMUuGLqhb9dOxwMkI103E-xBH0egtGQ/s400/Blue+Winter+Dress+Sketch.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
So I started with a sketch that I shared on <a href="http://www.facebook.com/sewcotton" target="_blank">FB</a> <a href="https://www.blogger.com/%3Ciframe%20src=%22https://www.facebook.com/plugins/post.php?href=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.facebook.com%2Fsewcotton%2Fposts%2F717629121774219&width=500%22%20width=%22500%22%20height=%22626%22%20style=%22border:none;overflow:hidden%22%20scrolling=%22no%22%20frameborder=%220%22%20allowTransparency=%22true%22%3E%3C/iframe%3E" target="_blank">here</a>. Don't look at my marvelous sketching abilities, I sew, I don't draw :-P At first I wanted to merge <a href="http://www.jenniferlaurenvintage.com/">Jennifer Lauren</a>'s <a href="http://jenniferlaurenhandmade.store/product/the-laneway-dress/">Laneway Dress</a> with Butterick 5520 for the raglan sleeves and then add a boatneck and pleats to it. I cut out, merged and adapted the pattern pieces back in january and made the first muslin. The skirt with the added pleats was a big hit, but the top an absolute fail. It just didn't fit. Disappointed I sat the project aside and decided to come back to it when I felt like it.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjuqp41v0jYdnNMx8sjDeDq0xl6D485FXL-62R4V6pybaKo7eEhtO71IEydlzopwAUTzCs9l-xdNuQZyHrhitB1IDtyd8-6tzM5jqw1KcOjxpZ3BTrPsreRfNWwbm5o8MtQB_pLhOP3rZs/s1600/Blue+Winter+Dress+3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1074" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjuqp41v0jYdnNMx8sjDeDq0xl6D485FXL-62R4V6pybaKo7eEhtO71IEydlzopwAUTzCs9l-xdNuQZyHrhitB1IDtyd8-6tzM5jqw1KcOjxpZ3BTrPsreRfNWwbm5o8MtQB_pLhOP3rZs/s640/Blue+Winter+Dress+3.jpg" width="428" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I didn't touch it in february, but when I was looking for a pattern for a wedding dress, I came across the bonus pattern for the Laneway Dress. Jennifer Lauren just new that one day we would need a classic neckline and provided it for us! Thinking back on it, it was an easy adaption, bt I was so set on the raglan sleeves and boatneck that at the time, I just didn't consider a classic neckline. I wanted those raglan sleeves because I was afraid a regular sleeve wouldn't work with this thick fabric.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj9D450AGeCkZVMFivovpepHFXbzywlIV1w0X-ffpGY6qJEgTAo9BFUkfg5VCgYHU11S5jaM1ZY491ZmQoEAVm2xMDZnBSbNuA4IvUKZ9brNdvY4VTfh_t16kiGArbQTFVFNVJcBcDPGw4/s1600/Blue+Winter+Dress+2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1074" data-original-width="1600" height="428" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj9D450AGeCkZVMFivovpepHFXbzywlIV1w0X-ffpGY6qJEgTAo9BFUkfg5VCgYHU11S5jaM1ZY491ZmQoEAVm2xMDZnBSbNuA4IvUKZ9brNdvY4VTfh_t16kiGArbQTFVFNVJcBcDPGw4/s640/Blue+Winter+Dress+2.jpg" width="640" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Look at that perfectly aligned zipper!</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
As for the adaptions of this dress:</div>
<ul style="text-align: justify;">
<li>I first added pleats to the skirt by cutting the front skirt pattern apart at the dart-placement on the bodice. This way, the darts and pleats would line up beautifully. I added 10 cm (5") that I pleated to the side of the dress when sewn. I left the back untouched because I didn't want to have too much poofiness.<br /> </li>
<li>Because I hadn't made the bonus pattern with the classic neckline yet, I had to adapt the front bodice pattern as I did the original pattern: I shortened the back with 1 inch (2,5cm) - as usual - and I
shortened the waist with 7/8 inch (2cm) I also shortened the shoulders with 3/8 inch (1cm). </li>
</ul>
And that's really all that was to it. The fabric does everything else: it's sturdy with not a lot of drape to it, so it holds it form naturally.<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhWw4f9I0eaOCvLZd-1SSUpJb3Lbz3tIMb89Nr4m28SLZk_Gmj-SXJMmvSxoYrDJY-F1ImZwvanKVuwutElAHsibcrqE8oPeJDqC3yq7VP-3p0xrACQoPWbbx8oMRP80EZ3GlCfdvceBLw/s1600/Blue+Winter+Dress+4.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1074" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhWw4f9I0eaOCvLZd-1SSUpJb3Lbz3tIMb89Nr4m28SLZk_Gmj-SXJMmvSxoYrDJY-F1ImZwvanKVuwutElAHsibcrqE8oPeJDqC3yq7VP-3p0xrACQoPWbbx8oMRP80EZ3GlCfdvceBLw/s640/Blue+Winter+Dress+4.jpg" width="428" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Love the pleat-galore!</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<br />
<br />
I'm really in love with this dress. Even though the really cold days should be over, I'm glad I made this dress. As I'm writing this, it's snowing outside, in the middle of march, while a few days ago it was still 15°C! I know what I'm going to wear to work this week! And who knows, if you follow me on <a href="http://www.facebook.com/sewcotton" target="_blank">Facebook </a>or <a href="http://www.instagram.com/sew_cotton" target="_blank">Instagram</a>, you already saw me wearing this dress!Allynarahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05506508640667783645noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4329512412419740850.post-20301166534441658042018-03-17T14:00:00.000+01:002018-03-17T14:00:39.664+01:00The Western Wedding Dress<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
So, last January we received an invitation to the wedding of one of my hubby's colleagues. There theme was Country/Western. Though I loved the theme (I do own cowboy boots and a Stetson), I was at a loss as to what dress to wear. The wedding was in the first few days of march, which could be warm or still very cold. But I set my mind on a dress and was determined to wear a dress, no matter what. Since I sew, I had a majority of options. But still...</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEixEN9TQrcXvyW8zlCua1t2pPjU4rEcVaioa7K4I31x36rAR926L0VfrkAdtacTUi97drEJehbK7ljpsJMfeDMhCQqO6FecpjShHKwP9UCtMjyC8ruQCbI7dsLVBAnmEdNDKZVLTG3kdxc/s1600/Western+Wedding+Dress+2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1074" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEixEN9TQrcXvyW8zlCua1t2pPjU4rEcVaioa7K4I31x36rAR926L0VfrkAdtacTUi97drEJehbK7ljpsJMfeDMhCQqO6FecpjShHKwP9UCtMjyC8ruQCbI7dsLVBAnmEdNDKZVLTG3kdxc/s640/Western+Wedding+Dress+2.jpg" width="428" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I was torn between having a nice and festive dress and a themed dress as requested. Because I didn't know whether others would follow the dresscode, I wanted to make sure that I looked festive enough. And if everyone was indeed following the dresscode, I wanted it to look on par. After many - and I do mean many - thoughts, I knew what dress I wanted to wear. But I hadn't decided on the fabric yet. So I went fabric shopping in my own closet and dig up this beauty. Two years ago I made one of my favorite dresses with this fabric - <a href="https://sewcotton.blogspot.be/2016/07/the-tiki-dress.html">look here</a>. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgLmneHHpTkc7fFC87KrO004lpoJS6vOGcjTtr5_umqMY123d3UR0incayPGnmfbkEyVMoHCLocu98Q98PNJr3oP61KgUquJFcehD79KdHYHzaTL_R4Yt66r5hafXd4PkRkdgBMp3babz0/s1600/Western+Wedding+Dress+1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1074" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgLmneHHpTkc7fFC87KrO004lpoJS6vOGcjTtr5_umqMY123d3UR0incayPGnmfbkEyVMoHCLocu98Q98PNJr3oP61KgUquJFcehD79KdHYHzaTL_R4Yt66r5hafXd4PkRkdgBMp3babz0/s640/Western+Wedding+Dress+1.jpg" width="428" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
As for the pattern: this was the third time I used <a href="http://www.jenniferlaurenvintage.com/">Jennifer Lauren</a>'s <a href="http://jenniferlaurenhandmade.store/product/the-laneway-dress/">Laneway Dress</a> (<a href="https://sewcotton.blogspot.be/2017/07/the-laneway-dress-v1-wearable-muslin.html">v.1</a> and <a href="https://sewcotton.blogspot.be/2017/09/the-laneway-dress-v2-pretty-in-pink.html">v.2</a>) as my go to pattern. Since I already made it a few times before and altered it, I didn't need to alter anything this time. For this version, I went with the Centered Collar and added no pockets. I was thinking of adding the pockets, but decided against it due to the fabric I chose. This fabric has a bunch of little threads that give it a more textured look. The threads lay fairly loose on the fabric, so I was afraid it would start to unravel when I would routinely put my hands in and out (rings, bracelets, watches, ...). I had that happen with this dress and I need to make that one again (already cut it out again).</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
So I paired this dress with my cowboyboots and really liked it. I had a blast at the wedding and so did the newly-weds.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
One of my favorite details on this pattern: The release pleats! They're flattering and almost always hit your bust at the right spot! No need to keep altering the darts untill it fits just right. That's a winner for me (and a true vintage detail, BTW).</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjNKubThdjlB0p4m6OQjrfJDt8qZj8dS65RnLIelWMk5rjpBXk6fVXFkZkAz96TnEv9xnyIrmNVGCW4IiBoUUg9Hn-ZF0s_1Oq8Z3B8k05BOF84vp1-ag21V2_GaYpdI6G8q5RP006J3Es/s1600/Western+Wedding+Dress+4.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1074" data-original-width="1600" height="428" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjNKubThdjlB0p4m6OQjrfJDt8qZj8dS65RnLIelWMk5rjpBXk6fVXFkZkAz96TnEv9xnyIrmNVGCW4IiBoUUg9Hn-ZF0s_1Oq8Z3B8k05BOF84vp1-ag21V2_GaYpdI6G8q5RP006J3Es/s640/Western+Wedding+Dress+4.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Oh, and look at this cute thingy I handsewed on the dress :D</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiavTM2zP5s4woWgwWMnp9AA6Cf5Fj8fm8ZApX4UmaeU6i7kjpUv5aGqGyHdG92n5jEFHkOAVEPRhZ0JFb3B41ullOqC-qcrHPHtqwLvN3aJXmVH_7H9ZG6g8xHI-Pu0wtwbB0KkI2MQEE/s1600/Western+Wedding+Dress+5.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1074" data-original-width="1600" height="428" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiavTM2zP5s4woWgwWMnp9AA6Cf5Fj8fm8ZApX4UmaeU6i7kjpUv5aGqGyHdG92n5jEFHkOAVEPRhZ0JFb3B41ullOqC-qcrHPHtqwLvN3aJXmVH_7H9ZG6g8xHI-Pu0wtwbB0KkI2MQEE/s640/Western+Wedding+Dress+5.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
PS: most people respected the Dresscode and some even outdid themselves!</div>

I wish you all the best of luck for 2018 and that all your dreams may come true!<br />
<br />
A new year means it's time to take a look at 2017 and see if I passed my yearly challenge of sewing 1 garment a month. Ready to see some lovely makes? Here we go!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgKVgzCYwIPu_p2nYKDvvnkWcNrEBapCjOwj3ziDd8ypnjTfnqbpxHy2oTcs01rsPjSFtzlFYsMXQohpK3VpTiii-HYv_QUKA4E0MrWoOAyZq5Vvlz5hXo3slqD4_H2wRS9I4SPSTpuX_Y/s1600/Tree+blouse+01.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1072" data-original-width="1600" height="428" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgKVgzCYwIPu_p2nYKDvvnkWcNrEBapCjOwj3ziDd8ypnjTfnqbpxHy2oTcs01rsPjSFtzlFYsMXQohpK3VpTiii-HYv_QUKA4E0MrWoOAyZq5Vvlz5hXo3slqD4_H2wRS9I4SPSTpuX_Y/s640/Tree+blouse+01.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
1. So back in January 2017 I blogged about a <a href="https://sewcotton.blogspot.be/2017/01/a-very-tree-blouse.html" target="_blank">Vintage Blouse</a> I made. I immediatly planned on sewing a 2nd one, but that had to wait 'till november 2017 (not blogged about, yet)<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgLamXufT9XGalwdmqFryUSlhRBRWOpjcEt95lRaDv1d2o_yQMHHWD6DUPf2FT_r4CjndvNCUan3FjektRDHT86X4vBG9IymiuwilFNHF1cl3Gy8HMTinsXApcT8HhZP2EE94rYOONFgsI/s1600/Laneway+Dress+v1+01.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1072" data-original-width="1600" height="428" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgLamXufT9XGalwdmqFryUSlhRBRWOpjcEt95lRaDv1d2o_yQMHHWD6DUPf2FT_r4CjndvNCUan3FjektRDHT86X4vBG9IymiuwilFNHF1cl3Gy8HMTinsXApcT8HhZP2EE94rYOONFgsI/s640/Laneway+Dress+v1+01.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
2. Between planning a wedding and changing jobs, I didn't really find a lot of time or courage to sew something. So for about 6 months I didn't really sew a lot. Untill I saw Jennifer Lauren's Laneway Dress. I immediatly started <a href="https://sewcotton.blogspot.be/2017/07/the-laneway-dress-v1-wearable-muslin.html" target="_blank">this test version</a>.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjajWl2Get6XJnesMvNMbmk50pNcIYm9vhRnFfJZlrLzVLov8OkGUvmY48SWnbS7WodvLsWF9TNa6KNQxmm1XeWZ1qT-cnDW25LcnYF43-AAkALHIWLFFOG0YckMpLiWvKZM2Hkk7OANJQ/s1600/The+Cyan+Dress+01.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1074" data-original-width="1600" height="428" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjajWl2Get6XJnesMvNMbmk50pNcIYm9vhRnFfJZlrLzVLov8OkGUvmY48SWnbS7WodvLsWF9TNa6KNQxmm1XeWZ1qT-cnDW25LcnYF43-AAkALHIWLFFOG0YckMpLiWvKZM2Hkk7OANJQ/s640/The+Cyan+Dress+01.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
3. One month after my own wedding, my sister married. So off course I needed <a href="https://sewcotton.blogspot.be/2017/07/the-cyan-cocktail-dress.html" target="_blank">a new dress</a> for the occasion! It was a Tried-and-True (TNT) pattern that I've made several versions of. Blogged about it in July, but finished back in May.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEho0gMyyes8rO5JTJNG1tL3ktFspxnrX4DUyN_0cazgHhIrr5Miwj8vNGWfBgsVh_xfL7K1pPef_rqIofDTeCCPmBw_F8SsdkYxK-cMg3em4V_ey7HCHMEJShil56gNFtgvkPbmsXpDP_c/s1600/Akita+Blouse+2+001.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1074" data-original-width="1600" height="428" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEho0gMyyes8rO5JTJNG1tL3ktFspxnrX4DUyN_0cazgHhIrr5Miwj8vNGWfBgsVh_xfL7K1pPef_rqIofDTeCCPmBw_F8SsdkYxK-cMg3em4V_ey7HCHMEJShil56gNFtgvkPbmsXpDP_c/s640/Akita+Blouse+2+001.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
4. Soon after that I decided to finally make that <a href="https://sewcotton.blogspot.be/2017/08/the-akita-blouse-2.html" target="_blank">2nd Akita Blouse</a> from Seamwork magazine. Simple, straight forward and a beautiful wardrobe stable.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh9jH47OVY9jD3mxpZS8aJK4tzW8Bk5WXP25y1m8wxJ0sy_BjupBYlAkBbXZfb0VzrZ72DLXlLW_N8XbqV_qAQJbkkdOfBB05TFfnTrbsZPeSBdrNHPcvBm88kMNrnDxFntth6VYcEEM6w/s1600/Laneway+Dress+v2+01.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1074" data-original-width="1600" height="428" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh9jH47OVY9jD3mxpZS8aJK4tzW8Bk5WXP25y1m8wxJ0sy_BjupBYlAkBbXZfb0VzrZ72DLXlLW_N8XbqV_qAQJbkkdOfBB05TFfnTrbsZPeSBdrNHPcvBm88kMNrnDxFntth6VYcEEM6w/s640/Laneway+Dress+v2+01.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
5. After the wearable muslin, I had to make a Laneway Dress in my <a href="https://sewcotton.blogspot.be/2017/09/the-laneway-dress-v2-pretty-in-pink.html" target="_blank">desired fashion fabric</a>. Although I didn't always like to wear pink, if it's the right shade, I quite like it!<br />

6. Soon after the Laneway Dress came Itch To Stitch's <a href="https://sewcotton.blogspot.be/2017/09/the-chai-dress-v1-wearable-muslin.html" target="_blank">Chai Shirt Dress</a>. It was the first time I ever made a Shirtdress and I really love it! Next time though, I'll make an underskirt when I'm using cotton. It clings to my stockings whenever I wear them. That's the downside of cotton.<br />
<br />

<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEggbjaGr5Zu2aAx6FnOIDDLZD26ZTT56J6b-owcGro4TeOBsbkCovbp7UqDLrrcSSH3-zvw3mYOwc8fEPhO7ru1dtAIiH0KiTkfr8AFNTeV2m8IXiLxyjjzlXG9XjsCPKwls3eJGl5421U/s1600/The+Gable+Top+01.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1073" data-original-width="1600" height="428" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEggbjaGr5Zu2aAx6FnOIDDLZD26ZTT56J6b-owcGro4TeOBsbkCovbp7UqDLrrcSSH3-zvw3mYOwc8fEPhO7ru1dtAIiH0KiTkfr8AFNTeV2m8IXiLxyjjzlXG9XjsCPKwls3eJGl5421U/s640/The+Gable+Top+01.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>

7. Having purchased Jennifer Lauren's Gable Top in the summer, I hadn't quite come around to sewing it untill it was autumn. Sewn in October and <a href="https://sewcotton.blogspot.be/2017/11/the-gable-top.html" target="_blank">blogged about</a> in November, this has become a wardrobe favorite of mine. Both fabric as pattern are super lovely!<br />
<br />
8. Even though I haven't blogged about it (yet), I finished a second Vintage Blouse, like I talked about with the Tree Blouse. It has been worn, but not as much as the wearable muslin. The fabric is just a bit too brown and the small checkers are not as much to my liking as I would've thought. Perhaps that's the reason I haven't blogged about it yet.<br />
<br />
9. In December I decided to make a new Christmas Dress, 1 week before my Christmas Parties began! So after some marathon sewing I finished 2 dresses. The first one is the wearable muslin in black with a black-and-white checkered top. Not blogged about yet, but if you follow me on social media (<a href="http://www.instagram.com/sew_cotton" target="_blank">Instagram </a>and <a href="http://www.facebook.com/sewcotton" target="_blank">Facebook</a>) you undoubtedly have seen it! <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiUkBUqZtDcYiN7nvvw4I72G18A6h3SWuB2g6OyaHLFmepAsPg6rYJPKYk9j4ogjg2tGK6G1d-RXkTT_AABShGz6r7oSUrxczofaiGsgYnkfBAyC-eeO7HZH00GrCJ6POtJUV_kxFUyO9Q/s1600/Christmas+Dres+2017+01.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1073" data-original-width="1600" height="428" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiUkBUqZtDcYiN7nvvw4I72G18A6h3SWuB2g6OyaHLFmepAsPg6rYJPKYk9j4ogjg2tGK6G1d-RXkTT_AABShGz6r7oSUrxczofaiGsgYnkfBAyC-eeO7HZH00GrCJ6POtJUV_kxFUyO9Q/s640/Christmas+Dres+2017+01.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
10. And then last but not least: The actual <a href="https://sewcotton.blogspot.be/2017/12/christmas-dress-2017.html" target="_blank">Christmas Dress</a>! Love it to bits, but it will be a while before I sew with Satin again! Very flattering but sooooooo slippery and it shows Every. Little. Mistake you've made while sewing.<br />
<br />
<br />
Conclusion: 10 makes for only 6 months of really sewing isn't too bad. It's not the 12 that I amed for, but I'm a happy gal!Allynarahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05506508640667783645noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4329512412419740850.post-233618812007971032017-12-26T17:30:00.000+01:002017-12-27T06:19:50.005+01:00Christmas Dress 2017<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

For those of me who don't follow me on <a href="http://www.facebook.com/sewcotton" target="_blank">Facebook </a>or <a href="http://www.instagram.com/sew_cotton" target="_blank">Instagram</a>: Merry Christmas! </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
So last week I suddenly decided that I needed a new Christmas Dress this year. After making a Christmas outfit 2 years ago, I really got into it. My husband even said that he liked my tradition of making a new Christmas Outfit every year! The funny thing is that I didn't even realize it had become something of a 'thing' for me to sew an outfit for Christmas.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
So last Friday I went through my stash in search of a suitable pattern. Before long, I came across Butterick B6018, a vintage reproduction of a dress that was very popular in 1966 - according to a lady on social media. My previous experiences with repro patterns weren't very good, so I asked around on FB before making it. Surprisingly though, the fit was pretty spot-on from the first round of sewing!</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://butterick.mccall.com/sites/default/files/styles/p_l/public/products/b6018/B6018_a.jpg?itok=5-paAblC" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="707" data-original-width="514" src="https://butterick.mccall.com/sites/default/files/styles/p_l/public/products/b6018/B6018_a.jpg?itok=5-paAblC" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Before I made my wearable muslin (to be posted on the blog), I took 2cm out of the back and shortened the skirt 2 cm (7/8") and did a sway back alteration (-2cm/-7/8" at the center back at the waist, located in the back-skirts in this pattern). After making my muslin, I took another 10 cm off the skirt and sewed a 1cm (3/8") hem instead of the required 5cm (2") hem. I also reshaped the shoulders by taking 1,5cm (5/8") off the bodice front and back at the shoulders, tapering to 0 mid-shoulder.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgHd0rAnF96Cy8TqVwFRgETKEktUL-PIO3C2JaZrd0NRzQit7WRsa3-8IrOR1FFk2eAhyphenhyphenY2Z9bKyh1YpvrIODy5-foQ-mydRW4-5R4erkqt_jmUSc0a6DM3osF1yaMBLb0uyBxdxLxvWgA/s1600/Christmas+Dres+2017+03.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1073" data-original-width="1600" height="428" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgHd0rAnF96Cy8TqVwFRgETKEktUL-PIO3C2JaZrd0NRzQit7WRsa3-8IrOR1FFk2eAhyphenhyphenY2Z9bKyh1YpvrIODy5-foQ-mydRW4-5R4erkqt_jmUSc0a6DM3osF1yaMBLb0uyBxdxLxvWgA/s640/Christmas+Dres+2017+03.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I'm in love with this pattern. It came together pretty quick and had a really nice silhouette. It is a figure-flattering classic, not too tight in the waist. It features a zipper at the left side, per instructions this is a normal zipper, but I made an invisible one out of it. Even though I didn't have to make any alterations as to the size, it would be very easy to do so. Even though I love it, I only would make it again when this Christmas Dress has had it's time or when the wearable muslin is in need of replacement.</div>

<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Oh, and before I forget: the fabric used for this one is a dark blue satin for the bodice and underskirt. The topskirt is made out of a see through polyester fabric, but I forgot how it was called. </div>

<br />
I was on a roll last september. After I made the <a href="https://sewcotton.blogspot.be/2017/09/the-chai-dress-v1-wearable-muslin.html" target="_blank">Chai Shirt Dress</a>, I immediately started on the Gable Top. This one has been on my to-do-list for a while now. As soon as I saw this fabric, I knew what I wanted to make out of it. So I bought the fabric and then waited a whole month before I actually made it.<br />
<br />

This <a href="http://jenniferlaurenhandmade.store/product/the-gable-top/" target="_blank">Gable Top</a> pattern from <a href="http://www.jenniferlaurenvintage.com/" target="_blank">Jennifer Lauren Handmade</a> is soooooo easy to make! It was the second time I tried a pattern from Jennifer Lauren Handmade and she didn't disappoint. I didn't have to alter it the slightest bit. Her instructions are clear and easy to follow, just like with the Laneway Dress (<a href="https://sewcotton.blogspot.be/2017/07/the-laneway-dress-v1-wearable-muslin.html" target="_blank">Version 1</a> and <a href="https://sewcotton.blogspot.be/2017/09/the-laneway-dress-v2-pretty-in-pink.html" target="_blank">Version 2</a>). All in all, I think this is an Indie pattern maker that I'll be following more closely. With the Laneway dress I hardly had to alter anything and the different bust sizes are a real treat!<br />

<div style="text-align: justify;">
I really had the hang in sewing dresses, this summer. After the <a href="https://sewcotton.blogspot.be/2017/07/the-cyan-cocktail-dress.html" target="_blank">Cyan Cocktail Dress</a>, the Laneway Dress <a href="https://sewcotton.blogspot.be/2017/07/the-laneway-dress-v1-wearable-muslin.html" target="_blank">V1 </a>and <a href="https://sewcotton.blogspot.be/2017/09/the-laneway-dress-v2-pretty-in-pink.html" target="_blank">V2</a> and the second Tiki-dress (a complete replica of <a href="https://sewcotton.blogspot.be/2016/07/the-tiki-dress.html" target="_blank">this one</a>), I decided I needed another one. Shirt dresses had been popping up in my sewing feeds, but I never had the courage to sew one up. Not because I'm afraid of the buttonholes or the other shirt-features, but because I wasn't sure it would suit me. And then suddenly I received an e-mail from <a href="https://itch-to-stitch.com/" target="_blank">Itch-To-Stitch</a> announcing their newest pattern: the <a href="https://itch-to-stitch.com/product/chai-shirt-dress-digital-sewing-pattern-pdf/" target="_blank">Chai Shirt and Dress</a>.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I immediately fell for it and wanted to try and make my own. So I put my other sewing plans on hold (soon to be blogged) and sewed this baby up in about 3 evenings, of which the last evening was spend sewing the buttons on! All I can say is that I'm very pleased with this pattern and am planning to make more, perhaps even a winter version. Such a quick sewing project with stunning results. My husband also loves this one because it's something I don't usually wear.</div>

As far as changes go: this pattern comes with different bust sizes, so I didn't have to do an FBA. According to the sizing, I had to go with bust C and size 8. Then I did my regular alterations: -1cm (- 3/8 inch) on the front piece, - 1 cm (- 3/8 inch) at the side of the back piece 'till -2,5 cm (-1 inch) at the center back of the back piece. I didn't alter anything else for this round.</div>

Overall, this came out very nice and was an easy sew. For the next one, I would shorten the skirt with 5 cm (2 inches), just so it's a bit more flattering on my posture. And then there is the waist of which I'm not sure. I think it needs another -1 cm ( - 3/8 inch) to hit my natural waist. But that waist is right at the bottom of the waistband. Because of the narrow space on the waistband, I don't think I'll be able to take 1 cm (3/8 inch) from it. Taking it from the top isn't an option either: I already altered it and any more alteratoins would make the seam fall on my bust instead of underneath it. So I'm not sure if I should shorten the waistband or not.</div>

How do you guys like my different colored buttons? It was more out of necessity than fashion, but I quite like how this looks. But those buttons sure did come at a price.
